‘Calder in India’ is a collection of memories. It celebrates the exhibition dedicated to the works that Calder produced in response to his time in India, while staying with the Sarabhai family. Many prominent artistic figures were invited to Ahmedabad, thanks to the friendship and patronage of Sarabhais. Among them were Le Corbusier, Isamu Noguchi, John Cage, Charles Eames and Henri Cartier-Bresson. The book brings together a rich outpouring of creativity and is presented like an album with many of the images and correspondence tipped in by hand, giving it a very personal touch. This is one of my favourite books and one of my favourite artists.
