Flowers have been messengers of meaning throughout art history – whether as symbols of fertility or mortality, purity or sexuality, love or loss, or simply nothing more than a pile of petals. The exhibition shows contrasting pieces from Gerhard Richter, Alexander Calder, Lucian Freud and Robert Mapplethorpe and Andy Warhol. The design is indeed influenced by the theme of contrast. It is inspired by brown paper in which flowers are wrapped and the beauty that’s inside (gold).
