Since its foundation in 2009, I have been lucky enough to design over 30 limited-edition books for Ordovas Gallery, a private gallery dealing in museum-quality 20th-century and contemporary art. No book is the same. Each is led and informed by the art and artists’ work. Each is interpreted with an obsessive eye for typography, along with careful selection of production processes and materials to reflect the art. Often it’s the subtleties which make the biggest impact – the choice of paper, the size and proportion of the book, how it is bound, colour, typographic style. This ongoing 11-year relationship continues to teach me so much about art, the design process, and the importance of strong working partnerships.
